1. Why the Legacy "BioTime on Windows Desktop" Model Fails

Historically, vendors installed on-premise software like ZKTeco BioTime or ZKMini on an office Windows desktop. Every evening, HR relied on this PC to pull logs from devices over the local LAN.

In real-world small business and manufacturing plant environments, this approach fails predictably:

  • The desktop computer goes to sleep or restarts automatically for mandatory Windows updates.
  • Antivirus software blocks local TCP port 4370 or terminates the background sync service.
  • Offices with multiple branches (e.g. factory in Chakan, warehouse in Bhiwandi, corporate office in BKC) require expensive static IP connections or brittle VPN tunnels between sites.

The modern solution: Direct outbound ADMS push. The biometric terminal itself makes lightweight HTTP POST calls straight to your cloud HRMS whenever an employee punches their finger, face, or RFID card.

2. Step-by-Step Configuration on ZKTeco Device Menu

Follow these exact steps on your ZKTeco physical keypad or touchscreen (MB20, MB160, K40, UFace series):

1Step 1: Configure Local IP & DNS Gateway

Press [M/OK] to open the main menu. Navigate to Comm. > Ethernet.

  • If using DHCP: Turn DHCP: ON to obtain an IP from your router automatically.
  • If using Static IP: Assign an IP outside your router's DHCP pool (e.g. 192.168.1.220). Set Subnet Mask to 255.255.255.0 and Gateway to your router's IP (e.g. 192.168.1.1).
  • Crucial: Set DNS Server to 8.8.8.8. If DNS is empty or left as 0.0.0.0, the machine cannot resolve the cloud hostname!

2Step 2: Enable ADMS / Cloud Server Settings

Return to the Comm. menu and select Cloud Server Setting (on some firmware versions this is labeled ADMS or Webserver Settings).

  • Enable Domain Name: Toggle to ON / Yes.
  • Server Address: Enter your MicroPlesk push domain: push.microplesk.com (or your dedicated tenant IP).
  • Server Port: Enter 80 (or 443 if using SSL proxy).
  • Enable Proxy Server: Set to OFF.

3Step 3: Register Device Serial Number in MicroPlesk

Go to System Info > Device Info to note your device's 14-character Serial Number (SN). In MicroPlesk Admin, navigate to Settings > Biometric Terminals > Add Device and paste the Serial Number.

Once saved, power-cycle the ZKTeco device. Within 60 seconds, the device icon will show a solid blue globe/cloud, indicating active real-time synchronization.

3. Troubleshooting Common ZKTeco Connection Errors

SymptomRoot CauseResolution

4. Automated Attendance to Payroll Ingestion

Once punches hit MicroPlesk's cloud engine, they are automatically matched against:

  • Shift Rosters: Grace periods (e.g. 15-minute late allowance), half-day cutoffs, and night shifts spanning midnight.
  • Sandwich Rule Preview: Flags leaves taken adjacent to weekends so you don't face manual audit surprises. Check our Sandwich Leave Rule Guide.
  • Loss of Pay (LOP) & Overtime: Automatically computes deductions and double ordinary rate overtime under the Factories Act.
