1. The ₹15,000 Statutory Wage Ceiling Explained
Under EPFO guidelines, statutory PF is mandatory for employees whose monthly Basic Pay + Dearness Allowance (DA) is up to ₹15,000 at the time of joining.
- Capped PF Option: Even if an employee earns ₹50,000 Basic pay, both the employer and employee can agree to restrict EPF contributions to 12% of the statutory ₹15,000 cap (i.e. ₹1,800/month each).
- Actual Basic PF Option: Alternatively, companies can deduct 12% on actual Basic salary (e.g. 12% of ₹50,000 = ₹6,000/month). However, the EPS Pension (A/c 10) remains strictly capped at 8.33% of ₹15,000 (₹1,250), with the entire remaining employer balance (₹4,750) credited to EPF A/c 1.
2. Step-by-Step ECR Upload Process on EPFO Portal
- Reconcile Attendance & NCP Days: Determine Non-Contributory Period (unpaid leaves) for each employee during the calendar month.
- Generate ECR Text File: In MicroPlesk, click “Export EPFO ECR” to generate the delimiter-separated format:
